Brooklyn’s Adrianne Lenker, Max Oleartchik, Buck Meek, and James Krivchenia return with a fifth and landmark double album of gorgeous, intelligent, free-flowing songwriting, mixing folk, pop, rock and country. With a campfire flavour, but recorded in four sessions over fifth months in very contrasting climates and environments (Upstate New York, Topanga Canyon, The Rocky Mountains and Tucson, Arizona) over the course of five months, the prolific 20 song selection was actually whittled down from 48 songs fully recorded. We previously profiled the rhythmic and highly original entropy-themed Time Escaping on Song of the Day, but other standouts, of which there are too many to list here, include the variously gorgeous, evocative and timeless Spud Infinity, Little Things, Sparrow, the title track, Change, 12,000 Lines, Red Moon, and Blue Lightning. Music just seems to pour effortlessly from this band. In a broad brush of masterful beauty, this is a real contender for album of the year already. Out on 4AD.
