A wonderful engaging, energetic third LP by Anna Wappel, aka Anna F, the Austria-born singer-songwriter and indie band, with witty, ironic, eccentric, warm, smartly humorous, hair-in-the-wind LP creating the feel of a road trip. They’re a very cool band indeed, mixing post-punk, indie, psychedelia and ethereal pop, and having toured this album, Anna F, Emily Linden on guitar, Cheryl Pinero on bass, and Fifi Dewey on drums are a tight unit, the sound feeling as live, under the production talents of London’s Dan Carey. Many of the songs clip along with that percussion repetitive rhythm associated with the krautrock genre, and there’s a constant playfulness in the music and lyric. such as on The Greatest riffing on a sense of double-edgeness and indecision: “I’m gonna get out, I wanna stay in / Make up some space in between.” And the title track is playfully ironic look at gym motivation, to “kill it on the row machine”. Other standouts include 100 Times, My Best Friend, Hello, and the beautiful closer Pull Me Off The Passing Lane. Out on Clouds Hill Records.
