The mysterious masked Swedish collective return with their third LP in as many years with a heady new dose of primal prog, funk, folk and psychedelic rock sitrred in a pot of guitar pedals, flutes, drums and ritualistic-style vocals. If you’re familiar with their oeuvre, it’s very much the same again. Some of the tracks feel a little bit like noodly filler (for example Frisco Beaver, or All Is One), but there’s some really meaty, dirtily enjoyable sounds bubbling up, especially with the guitars on other instruments on Dollar Bill or Zombie, while the standouts include opener One More Death, the single Goatbrain, and syncopated closer Ouroboros, referring to the infinite snake eating its own tale. Will it simply keep going, or is this self-consuming paradox? You get the impression Goat don’t care, because they are simply having fun with it with continuing great grooves. Out on Rocket Recordings.
