Released as usual without fanfare, and on Christmas Day, the London collective of by producer and musician Inflo return with an 11th LP – silky smooth, classy soul, funk and gospel, fronted by the voice of Cleo Sol. Thsi latest by the prolifici Cleopatra Nikolic, Dean Josiah Cover and co comes as a 32-minute continuous suite containing nine songs, sometimes flowing into each other, sometimes making an abrupt switch. While there are spiritual and religious themes, it’s generally more about love and making connections, and faith in a wider sense, less the more pointed political and social themes such as on their outstanding LP Untitled (Black Is) of 2020. Nevertheless this retains that high-class hallmark, with no one particular highlight song, with silky smooth vocals, liquid bass, funk guitar chops and sprinkles of piano, from the Marvin Gaye syncopations of opener I Look For You, the flowing jazz soul of Set Your Spirit Free, the upbeat shuffle of God Will Set You Free, the 70s wah-wah guitar funk and percussion of Soul Clean or Someone To Love You, or the gorgeously sensual gospelly closer Pray For You, set a delicious, stripped back walking pace, of intimate soul and shimmering, romantic violins. Out on Forever Living Originals.
