Wistful, melancholy, candid country-folk, but also punchier, passionate indie in this fourth LP by the American singer-songwriter from Nashville, Tennessee – Sophia Regina Allison, with a release that goes back to her roots, but also adds some gentler acoustic guitars, strings and flutes. The flute features particularly beautifully on the closing stages of standout track, M, but overall there’s a dark sense of grief and loneliness recurring on this record, particularly present on opener Lost, about the death of a loved one. Dreaming of Falling takes the darkness further, with lines such as “I see from the shadows now.” Salt In The Wound is classic acoustic shoegaze, but there’s more upbeat feel to the excellent Abigail. Deep feelings, strong tunes, darkly honest through tough, brave times, but she’s still producing the goods. Out on Loma Vista Recordings.
