One of music’s most positive, self-effacing and affable characters – as frontman of The Charlatans and host of Twitter Listening Parties – returns with a inventive, richly adventurous new solo LP of 22 tracks recorded over 30 days with a classy mix of catchy pop, rock and psychedelia. With a luxuriant production, there’s vibrant, eclectic variety and energy here in one of his best for years, which makes the title itself humorously ironic, and standouts including gently droll opener Here Comes The Weekend, the Sparks-inspired Curiosity, the Charlatans-style with added psych title track, the lovely tune of meta-song Flamingo (and also another number about friends separated), the hooky Tender Hooks, the tender clip-clop and vocal harmonies of In May, the piano-based Sure Enough, to closing track What’s Meant for You Won’t Pass By You. Out on Bella Union
