The third album by the Melbourne quartet of two ex-Drones and more is a magnificently anarchic mix of thrummingly clever noise and art-rock, postpunk, and wittily inventive, sweary chaos. There’s a lazy industry to their sound, seemingly random at times but supremely crafted, and Gareth Liddiard and Fiona Kitschin’s upfront presence, along with Erica Dunn, Lauren Hammel, especially in live shows, is a hilarious firework show of inter-band ribbing. G.A.F.F. (or Give A Fuck Fatigue) is artfully angry, picking up on “deep fakes, false flags, fires and famine’” Suburbiobia is a surreal psychedelic swirl of night-life images, Bumma Sanger bemoans lockdown where ”the bad news channel’s on a fucking roll” where guitars clamber over strange arpeggios. New Romeo Agent is like a beautiful film noir in song form. Overall, as with their last two albums, endlessly inventive, sharp as fuck, impenetrable at first, but infinitely rewarding and utterly original when given some time to soak in. Out on Joyful Noise Recordings.
