It sounds like a small timepiece or a low-key warning, but this is really word of a shade of pale blue, an angler's fly, and also a harbour town in Somerset. But does the word watchet every appear in song lyrics? Inevitably that's a big wide sky of blank, but the colour does come up in other forms. Just for fun, let's paint a few examples.
The Velvet Underground's Pale Blue Eyes, written by Lou Reed for their eponymous 1969 album is a go-to example:
Fleetwood Mac's Bermuda Triangle, from the 1974 album Heroes Are Hard to Find, which was the last to feature the Bob Welch on lead vocals, describes a pale blue sea down in Bermuda.
Randy Newman's Faust musical of 1995 combines images of both sea and sky of pale blue, as the Devil is told to: Relax, Enjoy Yourself:
Relax, enjoy yourself
It's all such a wonderful game
There are rivers and forests,
And mountains high
There are deep green oceans
And the pale blue sky
The Kinks song, When A Solution Comes, uses a bleaker image to include that pale blue image:
When a solution comes
It's gonna cover up the clouds
And eclipse the sun
And black out a pale blue sky.
Finally though, on a more upbeat note, teal is another colour closely linked with watchet. Mr Blue Sky from the Teal Album of cover versions by Weezer is an alternative to the original, of course, by Electric Light Orchestra.
