I’ve never been good with those optical illusions that everyone sees, you know the numbers hidden in a mess of dots or the animals lurking in the flowery undergrowth. And ever since I had my eyes “done” it’s been even worse. But I have plenty of imagination and that’s not a bad place to start.
There was no way Imagination’s Just an Illusion was not going to make the list. I once met the guys at a concert in Exeter and they were kind enough to help me look for a gold chain that had snapped and fallen off backstage after the gig. I don’t think anyone would have believed their eyes if they had happened upon us scrabbling around on our hands and knees going “Is that it?”. But it happened it’s not all In My Head.
Siouxsie’s Spellbound and the Talking Head’s Psycho Killer were two tracks that it seemed would be out bounds this week but when I reached out to pop them in the basket as I went round collecting possible for the A-list they were solid and tangible. How they have both avoided the Marconium for so long is anyone’s guess, but I’m delighted to usher them in this week.
There was no shortage of mirages this week, as was to be expected. Santana’s was known to me and always stood a good chance, Shelagh McDonald’s was one of my favourite new-to-mes.
Pearl Jam are a band I’ve never really paid much attention to but I loved Nothing as it Seems, so in it went. Mr Wobble has been unduly ignored in much the same way. Thanks to Shoey for nominating King of Illusion, which became my most often listened to find of the week.
Omara Portuondo‘s butterfly was overlooked a few weeks ago, it would seem. Fluttered straight into view and on to the A-list this week.
And to round it all off a little disillusion. My find of the week Ondara’s American Dream. Thanks to tincanman for bringing this one to our attention. He used to offer a “Dond of the Week” years ago at the other place, I’ll reciprocate here with an official “Find of the Week”!
