Break out the pisco and tequila! Produced by Franz Ferdinand’s Alex Kapranos, a joyously fun debut album by the international all-female London band who play foot-tapping instrumentals fusing surf guitar, Turkish psych, Argentine cumbia and Peruvian chicha, sporting a chic 60s look. Their clip-clopping pace, exotic guitar pedals and playfully throwback style recalls cinematic images of spaghetti westerns with little nods of the music of Ennio Morricone and more. Standout tracks include Pista (Fresh Start), The Link Is About To Die, FFS, Las Panteras and Good To Go! With their richly colourful backgrounds exemplifying a rich London cultural melting pot, the four variously connected to Sweden, Australia, Turkey, and Uruguay, the band’s performance is filled with cheeky, quirky, eccentric flourishes and a carefree, sexy charm and humour, culminating in a genre of joie de vivre, always best when seen performing live. Out on City Slang. See also their website.
