Sleek, smooth, shimmering synth-pop and and funky disco, very much with an 80s retro sound by the London-based musician, DJ, singer, producer and former New Young Pony Club member, comes with echoes of artists such as Bananarama to Axel F and Harold Faltermeyer, inspired also by the production sound of the legendary Compass Point Studios, out of which came songs by Tom Tom Club among others. The song 808 Beat, referencing the classic Roland TR-808 drum machine and beat composer, particular has echoes of the latter two’s theme tune from that Eddie Murphy 1984 hit film Beverly Hills Cop. But there’s more to this enjoyable LP, digging deep and reproducing familiar grooves and sounds from that 80s era. Hayter’s sexy-smooth delivery, clever beats, and production skills make title track, Scorpio, In My Heart, the jazzy Frequency, Stop the Rain among the particular standouts. A time machine of 80s disco sounds, liquid basslines, and overall effortlessly clever melodic pop craft make this LP flow like sweet, creamy chocolate. Out on Greco-Roman.
