Starting off the lists we're having a sample of Salted Caramel Ice Cream. A catchy, jaunty little pop song from 2019 which feels like it would have been a lot bigger had it come out five or so years earlier. While it certainly has the slightly impish double entendre which has permeated this whole theme, it has the more innocent qualities which defined the early 2010s.
A Banana Split for my Baby. What sweet girl could help but be charmed by how much Prima is trying to treat his date? Making sure the servers aren't being stingy with the toppings, he really seems desperate to impress. Let's just hope he doesn't get too far after the stunt he pulls at the end.
Reminiscence of childhood was another common factor this week. Cool treats on hot days, more carefree innocent days when a frozen snack could make you forget all your troubles. But choose carefully, lest your Golden Gaytime lead you to ridicule.
Given how far the Italian people have advanced and popularised the art of ice cream making, it would be churlish to go without acknowledging their impact and we do so in classic style, with Un Gelato Al Limon.
But turning to the purveyors of our favourite foodstuffs. The Ice Cream Man is a fond memory for many of us, often becoming a regular feature of our childhoods. Although it sounds like Tom Waits’s chap may also be a favourite of the women-folk of the neighbourhood.
And what a man can do, so can a woman. Who better than Lorraine Bowen to help shatter the glace ceiling and tell us of the Ice Cream Lady.
But that position of familiarity and trust lends itself to abuse and manipulation. Raye sings powerfully of such a betrayal within her professional career likening an industry producer to an Ice Cream Man who abuses his position. With content which can and should make us uncomfortable.
But we’ve been here for a while now, and the ice cream is softening a little. So perhaps we’re best to make a couple of Milkshakes. What flavours do you fancy?
And now it’s time for the last ice cream of the day. I’ve been saving it until just now. I do hope no-one else has eaten it. Saigo No Ice cream.
