Two beautifully paced songs by the Toronto singer-songwriter who has a style that transcends styles and eras, reminiscent of Joan Baez and Cate Le Bon, but with her her own particular maturity and stillness. Coming from Serbian family, and inspired by trips to Belgrade, Gavanski’s work has a cinematic quality, a strange alluring melancholy, with themes of solitude, heartbreak, the elusive, but also a dark, wicked humour.
Produced by Mike Lindsay of the band Tuung and LUMP (the collaboration with Laura Marling), Gavanski’s work is out on the Full Time Hobby label, but more of Dana Gavanski’s work can be found and purchased on Bandcamp, including her forthcoming album.
Open your eyes, it won’t disappear
Think of how much time it took to get here
But I don’t know how to catch
To hold it in my hand
So few are the days when I feel at home
I search your face for signs to help me feel less alone
Cause I don’t know how to catch
To hold it in my hand
Said I wouldn’t let you go
I saw it in the stars and I feel like
Some days it gets so old
That I can’t see
It’s getting clearer now that I’ve settled down
The moment nearer now that I have found
But I don’t know how to catch
To hold it in my hand
Ah ah ah ah
I’ll try my best to make it this time
Ah ah ah ah
I’ll try my best to see all the signs
So I can believe
So it’s clearer what I see
Cause I don’t know how to catch
To hold it in my hand
Said I wouldn’t let you go
I saw it in the stars and I feel like
Some days it gets so old
That I can’t see
