The thunder of hoof, hot, heavy breath, and the swish of mane, today’s song by the London-born singer-songwriter is inspired by Anna Sewell’s novel Black Beauty and Allen Ginsberg’s poem ‘An Asphodel’. Combining stillness and intimacy with a heavy rock riff, plus massive drum sound supplied by I Am Kloot’s Andy Hargreaves, Beer’s latest single could be seen as an equine fantasy, a love song of sexual obsession, or simply a visceral exhalation. Her voice has a smoky, smouldering presence and with a maturity that allows space for it to fire, her music variously inspired by Patti Smith, Bat For Lashes and Nick Cave.
