A stylish and charismatic glam-rock electro-funk-disco pop second album, echoing everything from early 70s Bowie or Bolan’s T-Rex to 80s synth New Romantics, by the wonderful Canadian androgynous singer. This is an album full of pop and rock belters, many backed by fabulous bass lines and guitar riffs, particularly I Am The Dance Floor and Good Looks, and Head Rush is a fabulous single. The thumping fame-parody number TV God, with added piano, brings an 80s dash of heavy-makeup glamour, while the title track is great disco pop recalling a dash of The Human League’s Electric Dreams mixed with Future Islands. The short tracks Channel 7 (Pilot Season and Channel 11 (Reruns) are fun, full-on synth instrumental interlude indulgences. A fabulously catchy and clever release mixing irony about skin deep superficiality (Good Looks focuses on dating apps) but also sheer unadulterated love for the music and its various influences, and so it should be. Out on Paper Bag Records, and also available on Bandcamp.
