A beautiful, graceful and in some ways surreal seventh LP by the New York pianist, experimental classical and jazz composer, producer, and multi-instrumentalist, here adorned with an unusual self-duet – playing alongside a programmable Yamaha Disklavier programmable piano. The title pertains to figure-skating forms, so this has a choregraphical theme, but in which Moran dances with the machine, with rippling arpeggios and beautiful touches throughout, even though this could be perceived as AI-level disarming. Standouts include Superhuman, which describes the playing itself of course, as does Dancer Polynomials, Butterfly Phase, which has graceful dancer video, the pattern-describing Leitmotif, the title track, Solar Flare, and Sodalis III, which has a live version. Constant, mesmeric movement. Out on Warp.
