The Dublin sextet of frontman Daniel O’Kelly, brother Kilian and co return with a third album, one of mischief, eccentricity and no shortage of musical skill, witty lyrics and clever, intricate and powerful triple guitar riffing, co-produced by Gilla Band’s Daniel Fox. As well as a wry humour as illustrated in the title, there’s a broad range to their styles - from postpunk to indie pop and rock, all of which jump up in the catchy quirky bounce of opener Selling Shovels, with shard-like sounds, “hoo-haas” and some guitar riffing that hark back to the era of Thin Lizzy. While Daniel takes on much of the lead vocals, Emma Hanlon jumps in to offer variety on lead and on backing, such as on the effervescent indie rock of Giving Away An Inch Of. Meanwhile Look At What You’ve has a bluesy-country rock bounce, and Something I Know moves into electro-pop dance territory, with a fabulous video. All the way to the closing title track with meaty rock guitars and engaging, easyflowing vocals, this feels like a band fully integrated into their craft, playful, skilful, happy in their skins and clearly having fun, one that also really translates in a live setting, as well as in the additional short ‘making of’ ‘Rockumentary’ video also below. Out on Central Tones / Cargo Records.
