From their recent collaborative EP, Myths 004, a wonderfully offbeat piece by the unique Welsh singer-songwriter and frontman of the US Indie rock band Deerhunter, with a tale of fractured love and communication between secretary and boss. Working relationships, after all, tend to take as big, and involved a part in many lives as family ones, and they can be equally dysfunctional below the surface. The music matches this – delicate, tentative, melancholy and strange, this is is prime Le Bon territory, adding to her 2019 album, Reward. Recorded in Texas, the collaboration extends further on the EP, out on Mexican Summer, with drums, saxophone, percussion, keys and additional guitar variously from Stella Mozgawa of Warpaint, Stephen Black aka Sweet Baboo, Tim Presley of White Fence, and Samur Khouja.
I can answer your telephone
Faceless family friend
My voice, you can believe in me
I can put you through
To everyone, or anyone
Can I take some time?
Can you stay on hold?
Take a holiday?
Make amendments?
Can I take some time?
Can you stay on hold?
Take a holiday?
Make amendments?
Same two piece for seven years
Same cold plastic lunch
Please return my papers
I am not afraid
Of finding you a failure
Can I take some time?
Can you stay on hold?
Take a holiday?
Make amendments?
Can I take some time?
Can you stay on hold?
Take a holiday?
Make amendments?
Mascara brushed across the planes
All of the phone calls you made disconnected
And without the search there would be no I
There is no I in the search, and why?
Why are my eyes so bare to the light?
To the light.
