Characteristically catchy with a simple, repetitive riff and melody, it’s familiar but also new, a bluesy, fuzzy 70s rock sound wrapped in something different. This can only be Cornershop and they do it so brilliantly. The Leicester-formed, London-based band, best known for Brimful of Asha, return with a new single, a tribute to the Black Country, the industrial birthplace of many things, but in particular heavy rock and metal. Cornershop has always been a cleverly eclectic band, drawing on east and western influences. The song also has references to California, and Tokyo, stirs in the usual sitar, and this song also echoes The Rolling Stones and by association, Primal Scream, as well a touch of Marc Bolan, Free and Steppenwolf. Tjinder Singh, Ben Ayres and co also will also release their first full LP in seven years in March, England Is A Garden.
